Concept 01

Data minimization

Limit identifiable information to the research purpose and avoid collecting unnecessary IDs or detailed free text.

Concept 02

Consent and lawful processing

Explain confidentiality limits and data uses in the approved research process; follow current institutional and national requirements.

Concept 03

Security and access

Separate identifiers where feasible, use suitable encryption and access controls, document approved users and secure data transfer and storage.

Concept 04

Sharing and retention

A public dataset may still allow re-identification from combined variables. Apply documented access, withdrawal where applicable and retention policies.

Education / safety note: This article outlines general safeguards, not a legal determination under an individual institution’s data-protection rules.
