Conductive pathway
External canal, tympanic membrane and ossicles transmit sound toward cochlear fluids; pathology here may produce conductive hearing loss.
Sensorineural structures
Hair-cell dysfunction, synaptopathy or auditory nerve pathology may impair neural encoding despite an intact conductive mechanism.
Diagnostic integration
Audiometry, tympanometry, examination and selected imaging help distinguish mechanisms and identify red flags.
Rehabilitation
Medical or surgical assessment, hearing aids, implantable devices and communication support address different patterns and severities.
