Epidermis

Collagen- and elastin-containing connective tissue houses cutaneous vessels, nerves and appendages.
Appendages
Hair follicles, sebaceous glands and sweat glands support protective, thermoregulatory and sensory functions.
Immune and sensory interface
Keratinocytes, antigen-presenting cells and cutaneous sensory receptors participate in defense and environmental perception.
