History and medication
Review prior anesthetic experiences, relevant illness, medication and allergy history, fasting status according to protocol and the intended procedure.
Physical and airway assessment
Evaluate cardiovascular and respiratory status and relevant airway features; no single airway test guarantees an uncomplicated intervention.
Select investigations
Laboratory and imaging studies are chosen according to clinical indication, comorbidity and procedure rather than a universal mandatory panel.
Planning and communication
Explain pertinent risks and options, clarify postoperative monitoring needs and document concerns with the anesthesia and surgical teams.
