Original schematic relationship map for this topic; relationships are organized for study, not intended as an anatomical depiction or a diagnostic algorithm.

Concept 01

Nodal automaticity

The sinoatrial node has spontaneous diastolic depolarization, while atrial and ventricular myocytes exhibit different action-potential patterns.

Concept 02

Conduction hierarchy

Atrial activation and AV nodal delay normally precede rapid ventricular conduction through the His–Purkinje network.

Concept 03

Arrhythmia mechanisms

Abnormal automaticity, triggered activity and re-entry can produce distinct rhythm disturbances depending on substrate and triggers.

Concept 04

Mapping and evidence

Surface ECG, ambulatory monitoring, imaging and invasive studies may localize mechanisms; results require integration with clinical risk.

Education / safety note: A conceptual mechanism map cannot identify an arrhythmia in a patient or determine invasive-treatment eligibility.
